Dear Members

BBV PROPOSED BOAT RAMP - Newsom St, Ascot Vale.

Better Boating Vic. (BBV) is currently are in the early stages of informing the public of a proposal to redevelop the area near the Newsom St walk bridge over the Maribyrnong River. The proposal is for the construction of a boat ramp and includes a carpark for about 20 cars/trailers and associated roadway to allow motorised boat access to and from the river.

The Boat Ramp project is not a Council project: it is a state government initiative. Details of the proposal and an opportunity to provide feedback to BBV can be found in the link below:

Feedback on the boat ramp proposal is open till 4th May 2021 and I encourage you to have your say. If the proposal proceeds, the impact on the river precinct and local area is highly likely to be of detriment to the valley area.

The Maribyrnong River Precinct is unlike any other in Melbourne where we can enjoy passive recreational and sporting activities. Rowing, canoeing, walking running, cycling, golfing, fishing and even the occasional swimmer use this precinct. In general, we feel safe within the valley area.

BBV held an introductory meeting on Tuesday 13/4/21 for people to view the plans and ask questions. There was limited opportunity to be able raise and seek answers on matters of concern.

The committee will discuss the BBV proposal next Tuesday and determine a suitable strategy for ERC.

Please feel free to contact me or any other committee member on the matter so we can collectively achieve the best solution.

Yours in rowing
