COVID Update - Current Restrictions and Regattas.
Current Restrictions in Victoria
As emailed out earlier today, the Victorian State Government released covid restrictions effective from midnight 3rd February. While these retrictions do not immediately impact ERC, members are advised to wear masks while in the upstairs function areas and carry a mask with you at all times while at ERC clubrooms.
Once again, please ensure that you continue to maintain our social distancing rules as they currently stand.
RV Regattas
RV held a meeting with clubs to discuss a recent audit conducted by DHHS of a regatta regarding COVID safety measure. The observations made by the DHHS found that social distancing measures were in breach of the safe distancing requirements.
As such, RV have released new guidelines for regattas that includes how regatta events are to be planned to ensure social distancing for rowers, support people and spectators are maintained. ERC continues to work with members to ensure that we contribute to the safe running of regatta's and will implement the necessary requirements out of the RV guidlines where required. Members are asked to assist the Captains team, coaches and rowers at each event to aide with this endeavour.
The guidelines related to regattas can be found here - 2021 RV Regatta COVID Measures

Rowing Day
Last Wednesday 27th January, ERC hosted a rowing day that was coordinated by Police Victoria for aboriginal and other nationality young people.
The day began with a welcome to nation by aboriginal elder 'Uncle Keith', followed by a presentation by Life Saving Victoria and then rowing activities that included a row on ergometers and on the water quads & a four. A BBQ lunch was provided by Vic. Police.
In total, there were about 60 people attending including Moonee Valley Councilors Rose Iser and Deputy Mayor Katrina Hodgson, the Water Police with their motor launch, community social workers, firemen and 'quite a few' police officers who play an important role with the community in a liaison role.
We receive plenty of praise for our facilities and in particular compliments to our ERC's learn to row team of coaches Zara, Holly, Jocab and Ash.
The day was regarded as a great success. We expect a debrief soon with Vic. Police and look to the possibility of other rowing days. It is unclear, at this time, if the club will have any new up and coming rowers but we will see in time.
Thanks to our coaches and to Mark and Luke for making the day great.

Bar Training Night
ERC's bar and functions team are holding bar training at ERC on Wednesday 10th February from 6pm for those of you who are interested in how our bar operates and wish to assist with the bar operation from time to time. The training will include the use of our Point of Sale (POS) system and how to serve members.
All members over the age of 18 are welcome to join in. RSA certification is not required for training purposes.
State Championships Dinner
On 25th February, ERC will be holding a Thursday night dinner in the lead up to the State Champs. This will be a great time for all members to come down to ERC and get together before the massive 2 day regatta at Lake Nagambie, to show support to our rowers, coaches and support people.
Further details to be emailed out to members in teh coming days. Get down to ERC and support our rowers.
Henley on the Maribyrnong
Just another reminder regarding seeking support for traffic management helpers for our HEnley on the Maribyrnong regatta.
Traffic Management is one of the key roles in our regatta, to allow ERC to close the boulevard and allow safe passage across the road throughout the day. Over the years ERC has paid for members to complete a traffic management course with the proviso that members volunteer for a shift at HOM and / or Saltwater regatta over the coming years. The regatta simply isn't profitable without members undertaking this key role. We are seeking members to undertake the course for this year's HOM, there are a number of courses running and could accommodate various availability.
We are also seeking members to assist with palnning for the day, including:
- Food stall coordinator
- Saturday night club dinner organiser
Please contact the secretary and / or Ellen McSweeney (e.mcsweeney@hotmail.com) if you are interested.
Members Details - Reminder
Just a reminder to members who have yet to update their details on the essrc website, inclduing information related to NCAS coaching accreditation and Work with Children Checks.
Please let me know if you are having any difficulty.
Ray Hammon - Celebration of a Life.
Due to Covid restrictions in 2020, Ray's family were unable to share the celebration of his life with ERC members, or rowing community.
As such, the Ray's family have now planned to to celebrate his life on Saturday 10th April at ERC clubrooms. Further details will be sent out to members regarding this celebration.
