About the Essendon Rowing Club
We aim to provide a fun way for ERC members and their partners, guests and children (13 years of age and over) to exercise and build friendships through what is one of the world’s best water sports - rowing.
ERC is open 7 days a week with rowing often happening both in the mornings and in the evenings. Squads can be found training in the gym or on the water weekdays anywhere from 6.00 am to 8.00 am or from 4.30 pm to 8.00 pm. A training session will usually last for a maximum of 1.5hrs depending on the level of the crew and the numbers of rowers. For the weekends when we are not attending competition regattas then training is usually Saturday mornings anywhere from 6.00 am to 12.00 pm and Sunday mornings from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm.
The clubhouse is situated at 48 The Boulevard, Moonee Ponds, 3039 (Corner of Holmes Rd & The Boulevard). The Captains' Team consisting of the Club Captain assisted by two Vice-Captains are in charge of all the rowing activities at the club. You may apply to the Captains' Team (Email captain@essrc.com) for allocation of boats and oars for the sessions of your choice. There is usually a member of the Captains' Team at the clubhouse during most training times.
ERC caters for almost any rower out there. We have squads for both young and old to learn to row, as well as both social and competitive crews. A brief list of ERC crews is seen below.
- Junior Learn to Row - for the under 19-year-old rower keen to give rowing a crack!
- Senior Learn to Row - for those over 19, looking to learn a new skill and stay fit!
-
Development Squad - for those coming out of a beginner program (or who formerly rowed and now want refresher training) keen to keep rowing!
-
Senior Squads - Rowers over 19 years old, with any skill level looking to compete!
-
Junior Squads - Rowers under 19 years old, of any skill level, keen to make friends and race fast!
-
Masters Squads - Rowers 27 years old and up (usually above 35 years old), looking to row with a squad and compete as a crew!
-
Social Squads - Rowers over 19 years old, keen to enjoy a morning (or afternoon) paddle, who aren't looking to race competitively!
Any rower who needs further information or a little help in getting started and "learning the ropes" can speak to either the Club Captain or either of the two Vice Captains who will only be too willing to help out.
